The Bull Run Menus

At The Bull Run we have an extensive Gourmet menu with dishes to suit every taste. We are, of course, famed for our steaks and have won many awards.

But it’s not just about steaks – our salads are legendary, the seafood will have you coming back again and again and our desserts are a talking point around dinner tables.

Lunch and dinner are served in the Bull Run Restaurant from 11h00 to 22h30 every day except Saturday, when we are closed at lunchtime.

The Bull Run’s Executive Chef, Jacques Etsebeth, has packed a wealth of fine culinary experience into his fourteen years as a chef and the fare he lovingly prepares and serves to the patrons of the Bull Run speaks for itself. 

A Capetonian by birth, Jacques trained at Granger Bay Hotel School in Cape Town but his natural inclination towards gastronomy started years earlier.

As far back as he can remember, Jacques has had a passion for Indian food, and by the age of nine he was able to identify a variety of different masalas, spices and seeds by sight, smell and taste. This gift steered him to where he is today, and his experience of cooking with his senses permeates all the fare he prepares for patrons of the Bull Run.

Jacques came to the Bull Run armed with the knowledge gained at quality establishments such as the Fancourt Hotel in George, Kruger Park Lodge in Hazyview and the esteemed Rovos Rail.

Jacques has successfully served luminaries such as Nelson Mandela and Irish band The Corrs, so patrons can rest assured that any meal presented on a Bull Run plate via Jacques’ skilled hands is steeped in culinary expertise…and just a little bit of his soul!

Since we are so close to the JSE Securities Exchange we have taken the liberty of presenting our menu in stock price format. Please note that US ($), UK (£) and Euros (€) prices are shown as a guideline only.

The Rand price is the price prevailing at any time. The exchange rate used is updated from time to time.

Tobacco leaves are harvested and aged. This curing process, takes between 25 and 45 days and varies substantially based upon climatic conditions. The curing process is manipulated based upon the type of tobacco, and the desired color of the leaf. Fermentation, is then carried out under conditions designed to help the leaf die slowly and gracefully. Temperature and humidity are controlled to ensure that the leaf continues to ferment, without rotting or disintegrating. This is where the flavor, burning, and aroma characteristics are primarily brought out in the leaf. Once the leaves have aged properly, they are sorted for use as filler or wrapper based upon their appearance and overall quality. During this process, the leaves are continually moistened and handled carefully to ensure each leaf is best used according to its individual qualities. When the leaf has matured according to the manufacturer's specifications, it will be used in the production of a cigar.
